Where Melbourne Orlando International Airport is, which airlines fly from it, how it compares with Orlando International, and what to check before buying a home near the runways.
Yes. Melbourne Orlando International Airport (code MLB) is inside the City of Melbourne, about 1.5 miles northwest of downtown off NASA Boulevard. The city owns it and the Melbourne Airport Authority runs it. It has scheduled airline service to a short list of hubs and seasonal cities, and most Melbourne residents also use Orlando International (MCO), roughly an hour north.

"Does Melbourne, Florida have an airport?" is one of the first things people ask when they start looking at moving to Melbourne FL, especially if they fly for work or have relatives in another state. The answer is yes, and the airport is closer to downtown than most people expect. Here is what flies out of Melbourne, how it compares with Orlando, and what to think about if you are buying a home near the runways.
Melbourne Orlando International Airport sits at 1 Air Terminal Parkway, Melbourne, FL 32901, on the north side of the city between downtown Melbourne and Eau Gallie. You reach the terminal from NASA Boulevard (State Road 508), a few minutes from US 1, Wickham Road, and I-95.
The airport lists that address and its main phone line, 321-723-6227, on its official contact page. Because it is on the mainland in the middle of the city, many Melbourne neighborhoods are a short drive from the terminal, and the barrier island is across the Eau Gallie or Melbourne Causeway.
The City of Melbourne owns the airport, and the City of Melbourne Airport Authority manages it. The authority was created by city ordinance and handles flight operations, leasing, and development of airport property.
The city's 2025 Ordinance No. 2025-38 describes the authority's jurisdiction, control, supervision, and management of the airport, and the airport's compliance page notes that it operates under federal, state, and local rules. For buyers, this matters mostly because land around the airport is subject to airport related restrictions, which I cover below.
MLB has a small airline lineup: Delta to Atlanta and American to Charlotte for connections, Allegiant to a handful of cities, and seasonal service from Sun Country and from TUI to the United Kingdom.
The airport's airlines and flight status page is the source to check, because routes are added, paused, and retimed with the seasons. As of this update, it lists:
| Airline | Nonstop service listed | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Delta Air Lines | Atlanta (ATL) | Hub connections nationwide |
| American Airlines | Charlotte (CLT) | Hub connections nationwide |
| Allegiant Air | Pittsburgh (PIT), Allentown (ABE), Cincinnati (CVG) | A few flights a week per route |
| Sun Country Airlines | Minneapolis and St. Paul (MSP) | Seasonal |
| TUI Airways | UK cities including London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Belfast, and Newcastle | Seasonal international service |
That is a short list compared with Orlando, so for many trips you will connect through Atlanta or Charlotte or drive to MCO. The upside is a small terminal, short walks, and parking close to the door.
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is about 60 to 67 miles from Melbourne by car, and most drives take roughly 65 to 80 minutes using I-95 north to SR 528, the Beachline Expressway.
The Beachline is a toll road, so plan for tolls or a SunPass. Allow extra time during rush hours, holiday days off, and around big launch days at the Cape, when traffic on SR 528 can build. Orlando International Airport has far more nonstop routes and international flights than MLB, which is why so many Brevard County residents use both. My Space Coast drive times to MCO guide compares the trip from every city in the county.
Fly MLB when a nonstop or a single connection through Atlanta or Charlotte works and the fare is close. Fly MCO when you need a nonstop to a city MLB does not serve, more flight times, or a lower fare that outweighs the drive.
What I see with clients who travel a lot is that they check both airports every time they book. If frequent travel is a big part of your life, my guide on moving to Melbourne FL when you fly often goes deeper.
Homes near MLB can be very convenient, and they come with aircraft noise, flight paths, and land use rules that are worth checking before you write an offer.
My guide to Melbourne FL homes near the airport walks through those checks in more detail, and you can compare areas on my Melbourne neighborhoods page or browse current Melbourne FL real estate.
Yes. Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) is at 1 Air Terminal Parkway in Melbourne, about 1.5 miles northwest of downtown. The City of Melbourne owns it, and it has scheduled airline service plus private and training flights.
The airport code for Melbourne Orlando International Airport is MLB. Its four letter ICAO code is KMLB. Do not confuse it with MEL, which is Melbourne, Australia.
No. Despite the name, MLB is in the City of Melbourne in Brevard County, about 70 miles southeast of Orlando. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is a separate, much larger airport.
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the closest large hub, about an hour's drive north and west on I-95 and the SR 528 Beachline. Melbourne Orlando International (MLB) is the closest airport with airline service.
